With the 2016-17 school year well underway and the 2017 legislative session just around the corner, South King County elementary, middle and high school students are invited to submit original artwork for display in my Olympia office.
As we emphasize science and math education we can’t forget that school should be about teaching the whole child. Steve Jobs didn’t build one of the most successful tech companies in the world because of his strength in programming alone. It was his understanding of how to meld art and science that revolutionized the way we interact with the world.
Sharing the creative works of some of my youngest bosses is a great way to remind me and the hundreds of people who visit my office each session that we have to develop well-rounded citizens with artistic expression playing a major role.
Students can submit artwork directly to Senator Fain at: P.O. Box 40447, Olympia, WA 98504-0447. Local schools and school districts also have submission information and class submissions by art teachers are welcome.
Students are also encouraged to visit the Capitol with their family to see the seat of state government and view their hard work.
